See personalized learning in action at Kent Innovation High
You have heard about project-based learning (PBL), but what does it actually look like in a classroom and school? On Thursday, May 8, 2019, Kent Innovation High (KIH) is welcoming up to 40 educators to visit as part of the Personalized Learning Conference. KIH will offer a variety of learning experiences, including student-led tours, a project showcase, student panels, as well as breakout sessions focused on PBL. This opportunity is open to all educators.
About Kent Innovation High
Kent Innovation High was started by Kent Intermediate School District in 2012 under the vision of the Kent County superintendents in the Kent Intermediate Superintendent Association. KIH was created as a result of feedback from employers and universities in West Michigan who identified a career and college readiness gap and said that high school students needed more focus on the skills necessary to be successful in life after high school. To meet this gap, Kent ISD and KISA designed a project based learning school that could serve as a lab school for students and educators across Kent County. Kent Innovation High was established to accept students from every public school district in Kent County. It was also established to allow educators across Kent County and beyond to visit the school and see Project Based Learning in action.
Each year Kent Innovation High hosts hundreds of students and educators. Visitors see a building with modern furniture and glass walls which allows an open and collaborative approach to education and learning. Visitors also hear from students who have experienced the benefits of learning focused on communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, research, and agency. Visitors to Kent Innovation High frequently report that KIH students demonstrate the career and college readiness skills the school was designed to teach. One of the first things you’ll hear students say is that “KIH feels like a family.” Kent Innovation High has made a positive impact on the hundreds of students who have experienced personalized learning at this school. We encourage you to come see what makes Kent Innovation High unique.

How Kent Innovation High is Personalizing Learning
We are very different from traditional high schools. With a focus on project-based learning and collaboration with both students and teachers, KIH demonstrates some of the best thinking in the country about teaching and learning. Success for all students is a driving goal of this "lab" school, which serves as a learning laboratory for teachers and administrators who want to innovate back in their own schools.
From the glass walls and integrated presence of technology, to the ongoing teamwork of students and just-in-time facilitated learning, the physical and cultural environment is designed to:
